Empire style furniture became popular in the U.S. between 1815 and 1825 and is recognizable for its clean lines, curved legs and carvings. Typically made in darker woods such as mahogany, this piece is thought to be handmade because the wood is light- both in color and weight- but the empire influence is undeniable. The top of the table and the bottom drawer have been sanded back to raw wood and given a light paint wash, while the body of the table and the top drawer have been painted in a deep, beautiful (almost black in low light) navy color. The original hardware has been updated in an oil rubbed bronze and the entire piece has been sealed in a satin polyurethane. Both drawers glide with ease and have been refreshed with an unscented furniture tonic. Measuring 39" wide, 16¾" deep and 30" high, this would make an excellent sofa table or entry table in a smaller space! Available for pickup in Falmouth.
