🌿  This beautiful, solid wood, clawfoot washstand is thought to be an early piece by Sears, Roebuck & Co. (based on the label on the back side). Veneered in a birdseye maple, the top had sustained some considerable damage, along with a few chips areas on the sides and door. After removing the veneer on top, there was a sizable stain where the veneer damage had been. The wood top (under the veneer) is made of both oak and maple, a combination far too lovely to paint over.
🌿 Additional repairs included building a brand new bottom piece to strengthen the structure of cabinet floor, the removal of the compromised caster wheels, adjusting the drawer bottom, filling the chipped veneer and sanding out as much of that pesky stain as possible.
🌿 Upon completion of the repairs, the top of the washstand was given a paint wash in a mix of Country Chic Paint colors. The body and drawer were painted in a custom soft, sage-y green with slight gray undertones. The towel bar was sanded down by hand and given a paint wash to match the top. 
🌿 This piece shines now! It has new gold knobs that look beautiful against the paint color. The top is imperfect, but the wood is full of character. The inside of the drawer has been lined with a cream and white botanical print, and the wood has been refreshed with a lemon verbena scented furniture salve. The towel bar is easily removed for transport.
🌿 The doors to the cabinet cubby open and close well, staying shut with their original ball-and-catch hardware. The entire piece has been sealed in a water-based satin polyurethane. 
🌿 This stunning piece of furniture is a great size (not too big, not too small) and offers plenty of storage. Two vintage linens are included with the purchase of the washstand (see photos). Available for pickup in Windham, Maine, near the high school. Please see detailed measurements below.
