This lovely, solid pine washstand likely dates to the early 1900s as evidenced by the hand forged nail construction and flat head screws throughout the entire piece. The washstand had been painted, stripped, and refinished at least once in its life, and traces of the old paint were still visible. It also needed some small structural repairs in addition to a very good cleaning. The original hardware on the drawer was completely stuck in place and had to be removed with a metal cutting tool. Once removed, there was another layer of paint under the hardware.
Time for a pop of color! Using Persimmon by Country Chic Paint, this piece got a bold, citrus orange update. The legs and drawer were sanded back to raw pine wood, which complements the hues of the paint. The drawer, which opens and closes with ease, has been lined with a simple black and white twig pattern and a new, oil rubbed bronze ring pull. The entire piece has been sealed in a water-based satin polyurethane for extra protection and just the right sheen. This washstand would be amazing in an entryway, on a porch, in your dining room, or anywhere that you could use a bold pop of color! Transition through the seasons by tying in flowers and greenery of different colors or decorating with bowls and pitchers of your choosing. With two towel bars (one on each side), you could easily decorate it with your favorite tea towels to complement your choice of stoneware. Available for pickup in Windham, Maine.
