This beautiful piece blurs the line between vintage and antique. Originally stained in a very dark tone, it had appliques on the top of each front leg that were badly damaged. The top had seen better days, and it was obvious that it had been well-loved. Following some repairs to the drawers and removing the remaining pieces of the appliques, it was sanded down to raw wood to reveal a stunning grain pattern. 
While I can't be certain, my best guess is that the wood is a combination of maple and birch as it's quite heavy and durable. After a good cleaning, it was sealed with a water-based satin polyurethane, new knobs were added, and the keyhole covers were put back on. The drawers have been lined with a blue and white splash pattern, and the drawers glide with ease after a good waxing.
