🖤 This gorgeous antique solid wood dresser is stamped "shaded wal." on the backer, likely indicating that the body was made of walnut wood. The dresser was in very rough shape when I happened across it - full of layers of peeling veneer and swollen, sticky drawers that were tough to open - a true Pumpkin Seed Designs special!
 
🖤 The amount of work that went into this piece is hard to describe. The entire top needed to be detached in order to remove a layer of veneer on the top side that had failed. On the underside of the top, there were another two layers of veneer that also ended up being removed. The layers underneath were peeling out from the sides of the dresser, so it was time for them to go! The result was a stunning, solid wood, multi-planked top that appears to be made from maple and possibly other woods.
 
🖤 All of the drawers had peeling veneer, and after removing it, I realized that there was yet another layer underneath. The bottom layer, however; appeared to be in good condition for the most part and also has a beautiful inlaid pattern that I wanted to keep intact. *Phew!*
🖤 The base had some damage on the underside, and the front legs were cracked and damaged. After some standard gluing and clamping, I reshaped the legs to repair them. Lastly, after a very thorough cleaning, the dresser was painted in a custom true black. The design was pulled together with new antique brass hardware that looks stunning against the black. The insides of the drawers have been refreshed with a lightly scented lemon verbena furniture tonic and lined with a moody floral print.
 
🖤 The entire dresser has been sealed in a satin polyurethane for extra durability and a lovely sheen. This piece is packed with character - aside from the inlaid design on the bottom two drawers, there is fluted detail under the top two drawers that gives the dresser a modern flair, but is original to the design. The wood on the top is incredible and unlike anything you'll find in a big box store. With plenty of storage, this dresser is solidly built and ready for its next life in your home!
