This gorgeous, eastlake oak washstand got a completely new look! When we came across this piece, the original legs and base had been cut off, and it was sitting on small plastic stick-on corners, directly on the floor. The height was awkward, and it kind of just looked a little funny with no base. We built a new base out of wood and added dentil trim/moulding around the bottom for some extra authenticity. After a few more repairs (a newly made piece of joinery for one side of the top drawer, a proper "locking" wood knob for the door, and a fix to one of the hinges on the door), this beauty was ready for some paint.
We used Shackteau Interiors Coastal Gray milk paint - a soothing, calming gray. Original eastlake-style hardware adorns the top drawer and new white, ceramic drop-pulls from Shackteau Interiors complete the look. The drawers were made using knapp joinery (a.k.a. "pin and cove"), which dates the washstand to have been built somewhere between 1870 and 1900 or so. The drawers are lined with a white and gold geometric print. The wood inside of the cabinet and sides of the drawers have been refreshed with Wise Owl's furniture salve in a lemon verbena scent. Don't miss out on a lovely piece with great storage! Available for pickup in Windham, Maine.
